What the source explains
The researchers surveyed resident doctors at a tertiary hospital in New Delhi in June 2022. Among 326 participants, 80.4% reported workplace violence, with verbal abuse prominent. The study also examined perceived effects on patient management. Because the work was cross-sectional and based on self-report at one institution, it cannot establish causation or the prevalence among all Indian doctors.
Using this reading in your hospital
Use the study to discuss what support rotating residents need, especially in public-facing departments. If collecting local feedback, specify the time period and definitions before comparing results. Keep a research survey separate from the route for urgent assistance.
A question for your team
What would help a resident report an incident even when their posting is about to end?
