Public trust and advocacy

Respond to a hospital rumour without amplifying it

Verify the claim, protect private information and choose a proportionate correction route.

Original planning guide · For local adaptation

Original AI-assisted planning guide from Nagpur IMA Safety. Adapt it with the responsible local team; it is not a clinician-reviewed protocol.

Check what is actually being claimed

Preserve the original link or message through an appropriate private process and identify the factual question. Distinguish criticism, an incorrect statement and a credible threat. They require different responses. Do not repost a harmful claim to a much larger audience simply to show that it exists or ask supporters to confront the account.

Use an authorised correction

Ask the responsible team to verify facts before responding. A concise correction should explain what can be established without disclosing patient information. If the matter concerns an individual case, appropriate consent and legal advice may be necessary. Correct the record through the channel best suited to reach affected readers rather than launching a public argument.

Track the practical effect

Record whether the issue created confusion about access, services or staff safety. Route threats separately to the relevant institutional and emergency channels. Review how the inaccurate information arose and whether a clearer public explanation would help. Do not assume that disagreement disappears because an official reply was posted.
