Plan a supervised emergency-calling drill

Define the people, message, stop condition and evidence before testing any group alert.

Original planning guide · For local adaptation

Original AI-assisted planning guide from Nagpur IMA Safety. Adapt it with the responsible local team; it is not a clinician-reviewed protocol.

Agree the scope first

Choose a small, consenting participant group and an announced time window. Identify an exercise controller who can stop the test and a person observing results. Explain which channels will be used and whether anyone is expected to travel. A communication drill normally needs acknowledgements, not unscheduled attendance at a hospital. Keep normal emergency access available throughout.

Use an unmistakable test message

Label the announcement as a supervised test at the beginning and end. Use a controlled script and avoid realistic claims that could alarm people outside the exercise. Confirm the destination list before sending. Never seed an operational calling list with plausible dummy phone numbers, because they may belong to real people. If anything behaves unexpectedly, stop and investigate.

Record what the test actually establishes

Distinguish requested calls, provider acceptance, answered calls, audible announcements and recipient acknowledgement. Ask participants about clarity and the action they understood. Record failed attempts and the agreed follow-up. A drill report should state its limits, including any untested provider, shift or location, rather than describing one successful sample as universal readiness.

Before approval

What result would cause the controller to stop the drill, and can that person stop all test activity promptly?
